Every time I think I’ve gotten as obsessive as possible about something nobody else cares about (say…holidays, for instance), I find that someone else has taken my obsession and turned it into a life quest.
Did you know that a blogger went through the Chicago Cubs baseball game in the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, deduced that the game had played live during the movie, tracked down all the relevant information based on film scenes, including who played and what Harry Carey said, and then went through relevant footage for games around that time period to figure out what game it was and when it was played so they’d know on what day of the year Ferris Bueller’s day off fell?
Well, they did, they decided it was June 5, 1985 and you can read all about it here.
Earlier this year, several news wires picked up this story and suggested that we make today a national holiday in honor of Ferris, Ferrari “borrowing” and parade karaoke. I hope that happens. Maybe they should talk to the Clark sisters and combine it with Wig Out Day since that holiday is a homeless kid in need of a calendar square.
As for me, today the sun made one of 6 scheduled appearances up here in Bellingham, so I took a few hours off and drove around to see what other people were doing with their day off. And then I made a short movie about it and set it to one of the top tunes from 1985.
Movie making is hard, which comes as no surprise to John Hughes or any of you. I have no experience with iMovie (clearly); so, refrain from judgment and instead enjoy the poppy sounds of A-Ha and think about how you should spend your next day off.

WordPress wants to charge me $60 to upload this video, which I’m loathe to do. Let’s give YouTube the hits instead, shall we?
